Media players crashing

Hi everyone,

I have been using Fedora 16 for about three months now. The media players installed on my system (totem, vlc, smplayer) were working perfectly all this time, but suddenly today they started crashing when trying to play certain types of media files. Whenever I try to play .mp4, .flv or .mov file they crash; however when I play .avi or .mkv files they play without any problems.

Can anyone help me to resolve this issue?

try playing the vid with mplayer from the command line, it has the most comprehensive printout and post the output here.
Having said that mplayer, vlc and totem all use different codec packs so I'm thinking maybe those files are corrupt in some way.

Many of the files were downloaded months ago and were playing without any problem all this time. And they are still playing in Windows (in Media Player Classic).

Here is the output that I got when I tried to run them from command line -

Also when I right-click on those type of files mentioned (.mp4, .flv or .mov) and click on "Properties" nautilus also crashes.

Memtest86+ did not find any errors.

Let me tell you what I was doing when this problem started. I was actually watching a .mp4 video on totem. Then I paused the video and did some things. During this time I also opened jDownloader and it updated a few things. I don't exactly remember if I did anything else. After some time I resumed the video and totem crashed. Since then all the video players are crashing when trying to play those type of files mentioned.

And besides the type of files I mentioned that are playing fine (.avi, .mkv) .wmv files are also playing without any problems.

Did a fresh install of Fedora 17. All the video files are playing properly again.
