Nautilus file properties with TIFF images

Now that I've finally whipped F17 into a shape I'm mostly happy with, I've been getting back into my other hobby of scenic photography.

I've noticed that Nautilus hangs if you show the properties of a TIFF file. The properties window appears okay, but then Nautilus freezes. There is no output to stdout or stderr.

Does anyone else see this? I'll file a bug if others are seeing this and there isn't some obvious fix I'm missing...

Yes, I see it too. Right-click on any .tif > properties and it's dead.
Hm, quite strange there is no output though, so no clue what's wrong.
The only thing I see is that it happens most of the time, but it didn't happen once..

Yes, there's a few small TIFFs in the DocBook documentation that don't hang Nautilus, but I haven't created any with GIMP/Hugin/ImageMagick/etc. that don't. I'll try messing around with different sizes, TIFF output settings and colour depths in GIMP before filing a bug.

But.... But....

That's not a bug... It's a Feature

Do you see any errors in your ~/.xsession-errors file?

No, there're no Nautilus errors in .xsession-errors. Just the note about loading the open-terminal extension wherever I restarted it. I should probably mention that in the bug report actually...

Re: Nautilus file properties with TIFF images

I have the same problem with .NEF files (Nikon RAW format), which are all huge.

In the mean time (before the bug is fixed), is there a way (by editing files?) to set the default application (in my case I want .NEF files to be opened by the GIMP - the current default is emacs).
