Problem with tracker package on F17

I have just installed F17 using my existing /home partition (other partitions were formatted). I have also updated everything and it is all OK except for a repetitive error coming from the tracker-0.14.1-1.fc17 package which is the desktop neutral search and indexer. I am running KDE by the way. The error shows up as a message saying 'a problem in the tracker-0.14.1-1.fc17 package has been detected' and there is an error in ABRT showing tracker-extract was killed by signal 5.

I have re-installed the tracker package using yum but still getting the problem.

Anyone any ideas on this please?

Stuart

Re: Problem with tracker package on F17

Still having a problem with the tracker and find it is using 30% cpu at times both in extract and miner tasks. The crashes are still happening as well. Also notice that mount-ntfs-3g is busy from time to time as well, I do have some NTFS partitions mounted as they are shared with a dual boot XP system. This is all making the system quite sluggish (on a quad core AMD processor)!

Would really appreciate some help here in how to find out what is going on....

In my opinion, Tracker is a piece of garbage..

Now that said..

You can safely disable Tracker (look in your startup applications and disable all of the tracker programs to keep them from starting when you start KDE.)

I once tried to uninstall tracker, but it wanted to remove a lot of other things as well, so I didn't do it, and really never looked into how to get completely rid of it.

Well so far I've not found where I can disable it, at least I've not found any service etc called tracker anywhere I've looked? Any ideas exactly where and for what I should look in KDE?

Re: Problem with tracker package on F17

Have a look at this: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=747689, it lists ways to disable it from gnome and kde, as well as a way to remove it complelely.

YMMV though.

Re: Problem with tracker package on F17

Well I removed it as it only required 3 other packages to be removed none of which I need.
