Extra Box

Hey what do u think i should run on my extra computer its 500 mhz 512 ram and a 10 gig hdd i got it running fedoria core 2 and seti@home it seems kind of a waste. The rest of the computers in my house are all windows xp. I got samba set up on it to backup my files but thats about it. Got any ideas what i can run on it to make it more usefull to me and my familly.

It might be a tad too slow, but with all that ram it might be a fairly decent media center box. If you get yourself one of them tv-in cards as well, you have yourself your very own home-made almost-TiVo.

Look at the mythTV project: www.mythtv.org

And have a look at this guide: http://wilsonet.com/mythtv/

Heck, with those specs (except for the disk space), it would be a pretty rockin' server of all kinds:

Extra firewall/router
HTTP server
Wiki/Content management system
Jukebox (distributed media files read from the SMB mounts?)
Mail server
etc.
