Hi,
Just did the latest updates for F17. It broke my Windows7. Here's what I have
HP A6700f pavilion desktop
Windows 7 64bit on 500GB drive 1
Second hard drive has Fedora 17 64bit, that's 1TB
ATI Radeon 6150
Just did the most recent update, was 138 items including kernel.
Previously I had some graphics problems connecting my 26" tv to the graphics card, there is an overscan issue and Fedora / Gnome3.4 has pretty crappy display options (sorry but its true). The solution was to use a VGA connection instead of my nice HDMI. Not thrilled with it, but it works. Screen resolution worked fine on widescreen after that.
When I rebooted after update everything looked stretched. Checked my display settings, sure enough somehow it went back to a 4:3 ratio. Tried to set it to widescreen, WALL OF ERROR. Ok whatever, I can deal with a stretched ugly screen for now. So I Logged off, restarted, used GRUB and selected my Windows partition.
I now get the Black Screen with Cursor after the windows logo but BEFORE login. Startup repair can find no problems, but suggested any hardware changes might have caused it. I dont have any hardware changes, the closest thing to that is Fedora/Gnome3.4 after last update somehow said "eff you" to my graphics card.
The ONLY Thing I can think of is somehow the update screwed up my boot partition.
I know I can downgrade to the last kernel, but a) aside from "yum downgrade kernel" i am unsure what command to use (logged in as SU of course), and b) will that even help?
The only other fix is to "upgrade" windows7 to itself with the start disc, but i'm afraid to lose my files.
HALP?

I am also slightly stupid. I just realized that in the WORST CASE of having to re-install windows i have that 1TB second hard drive with F17 on it. So i just copied all 60 gigs of music and photos and home vids to my 1TB drive. I'd still rather not go through a Re-install.
Though i DO have a question: Windows cannot SEE my 1TB fedora partition, like the drive doesnt exist. Unlike Fedora that can see my windows drive. I know if I reinstall windows it will delete GRUB. If I re-install Fedora again over the 1TB i'll lose what I just backed up. If i run F17 on a Live-cd, I should be able to access both drives and copy them back to the Windows hard disk right?
My god I would hate to go through all that though..
