changing file association

i don't seem to be finding a way to change file association. e.g., PDF opens with Okular even after installing Adobe Reader.

any idea? couldn't get much out of Google

xdg-mime default adobe-reader.desktop application/pdf;application/x-pdf

or maybe

xdg-mime default adobe-reader.desktop application/pdf application/x-pdf

IDK if the desktop file for Adobe Reader is called like that, though. Change for the proper name.
Depending on the file manager you're using you can right-click>open with and choose the default app there.
