F17: Your current installation cannot be upgraded

System runs F16 fine. Has boot partition on /dev/sda1, Standard LVM created by some Fxx install on /dev/sda2 with a swap and root logical volumes. Updated from xx through 16 with yum update with no problems ever.
Going to F17 via DVD I get "your current installation cannot be upgraded". Looking through the several consoles I see a message of Product None Release None or something like that and on another a couple of messages with 0 logical volumes available on my volume group.

Tried preupgrade from F16 but /boot only has 200 MB and thus won't go. Forcing stage2 doesn't work as I'm behind transparent firewall and need to get a fixed IP to be able to get out and when booting under dhcp I get a different one that can't get out.

Stuck, anyway out of this?

Re: F17: Your current installation cannot be upgraded

Which version of Fedora 16 are you running 32 bit or 64 bit and which version of Fedora 17 are you trying to install? Try

Code:
uname -a
You probably can't cross upgrade from a 32 bit version to a 64 bit version or vice versa.

Re: F17: Your current installation cannot be upgraded

Turns out that in some systems /etc/redhat-release is symlinked to /etc/fedora-release (absolute path) instead of to fedora-release (relative path) and under anaconda the absolute link doesn't work.

I had that in two of my systems, two other were fine. All systems had a fresh install of some Fxx and were yum upgraded till now, so I think it depends on which version the first install was, but can't be sure.
