Fedora 17, how to make launchers on desktop?

Hi guys, trying F17 out but I can't for the life of me get a launcher/shortcut onto the desktop?

I want to be able to launch an app without opening the side menu or typing into that search bar

also is there a way to get a right-click menu to come up, like previous versions, so you can create folders & do things?

thx!!

So, are you using Gnome or KDE or another desktop UI?

Re: Fedora 17, how to make launchers on desktop?

ps -ef | grep gnome

brought up a lot more stuff than

ps -ef | grep kde

so I assume it's gnome

I just downloaded the 64bit F17 iso & installed it so I guess it uses gnome by default

cheers

Excellent. Do the following

Code:
yum install gnome-tweak-tool
Under Desktop, toggle 'Have file manager handle desktop' to ON. This will restore functionality to the desktop. Hope this helps.

Sorry to raise an old thread from the dead but I searched for my problem and found this which looks like an answer. However, I have installed gnome-tweak-tool as per instructions but I'm not sure what tyo do next as in "Under Desktop, toggle 'Have file manager handle desktop' to ON. This will restore functionality to the desktop. Hope this help"
Am I supposed to run gnome-tweak-tool to toggle the settings? If so where does it run from, I can't find it's .exe anywhere and it hasn't come up in my applications list.
If not can you explain a bit more for a newbie please/

Regards
Clive

To launch gnome-tweak-tool, you can either go to the "Activities" tab and choose "Advanced Settings" or ALT+F2 and type gnome-tweak-tool.

See the screenshot for gnome-tweak-tool.
