Thumbs up Solved: KompoZer installation

Hello
I do need for a job together with a friend KompoZer on my machine. Now I do not find it with
Code:
[root@fedora ~]# yum search kompozer
Geladene Plugins: langpacks, presto, refresh-packagekit
Warnung: Keine Übereinstimmung gefunden für: kompozer
Keine Übereinstimmungen gefunden
[root@fedora ~]#
I have downloaded from SourceForge the newest
Quote:
kompozer-0.8b3.de.gcc4.2-i686.tar.gz
However contrary to all standard use, there is no directive how to install this programme.

I am familiar with it, using KompoZer since may years, and in my Mint 12 it works perfect.

I have to use Scribus and KompoZer together in this project. The situation is as follows:
Mint Lisa: KompoZer OK, Scribus is a «rc» version, no stable in the repos, and has promptly a serious error in it (no change of fonts possible).
Fedora17: Scribus OK, KompoZer not in the repos.

Can somebody direct me how to install Kompozer with the above mentioned file, so that I can find it in the Graphic Application?

I did look up with the search machine some past threads, but did not find the right answers, as most are from 2010 or even older.
Is it a problem that I have a 64bit installation? I should think not, because in Mint it works.

Re: KompoZer installation

Here's a better option:

http://rpmfind.net/linux/rpm2html/se...query=kompozer

Download the version you'd like (64 bit), then cd to where you've downloaded it
and then use yum to install it.

as example:
Quote:
su
cd Downloads
yum install *.rpm

Re: KompoZer installation

Thank you Bob. I did see this page, however I had some pain to find the correct one the first it would be, however there is not 64 version. In the meantime I have downloaded straight from the link on the developers page the File
Quote:
kompozer-0.8b3.de.gcc4.2-i686.tar.gz
this version is also the German one, which suits me much better.
I just realised, that on Lisa (a 64 system too) runs the 32 bits KompoZer, so I suume, it would also do that here.

However, I have no clue how to install this file and have the starter in Graphics. Any link to a page explaining this would be very much appreciated.

Re: KompoZer installation

Yes, I'm running the 32bit version too, which I got from here: http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat....i686.rpm.html although you certainly can simply download the tar.gz (which you did), then move it to your /home or anywhere else you choose and right-click on it to "extract here". That will create a file called Kompozer with a "kompozer" executable that you can run.

As to an icon, the best way would be to use AutoPlus (see Fedora Start-Up Guides, above) to install alacarte properly. Then use alacarte to modify the menu for you and pick your icon. Then point to the executable and it should appear in your menu.

Re: KompoZer installation

Hallo Bob
Thanks a lot. I extracted the downloaded file into /opt/kompozer, then I opened a new item in «Manage the Applications Windows» (I am on KDE) Graphics, got the correct start file and the icon, and now KompoZer starts.

Easy, once one knows how to do it.

Has anybody an idea what the parameters on the line with the command like «krusader -caption "%c" %i» mean?
