I am having trouble opening a file

I am trying to open a file with libre office in the terminal (I would like to be able to do this in the terminal) and I am having some trouble doing it.

I am typing

libreofficewriter <filelocation>

I have tried several different varriations on libre office writer. I also tried searching for libreoffice as root and as my nonroot user to find out exactly what I was supposed to type to envoke libreofficewriter but I couldn't find it as either. I also tried typing libreoffice.

Here is the version of libreoffice that I am using.
LibreOffice 3.4.5

For the record, I did try gedit and gedit was unable to deal with the document. It just displayed a bunch of random characters.

Re: I am having trouble opening a file

If you want a specific LibreOffice component, you can provide it as an option like this:
Code:
libreoffice -writer filename.odt
As a nice trick, to open a file using your default associated application, try
Code:
xdg-open filename
