LibreOffice Not starting after inst of theallation
Hello friends,
I recently installed libreoffice from the .tar file. It installaled correclty but when i click on any of the application of libreoffice(LibreOffice Writer), it doesnt start. Sometimes it shows that JavaRuntime Required.
I read the same thing in the Readme File in the libreoffice .tar file. After installing libre office Now i installed Java too but still it Doesnt start.
Help me, in correcting this problem. OR mention the command to UNINSTALL the existing LibreOffice so that i reinstall it.
Thank You.

I've got the exact same thing - just installed 3.5.5 from tar, but clicking on launchers in the menu does nothing. I get no messages about Java tho, it just does nothing

How was JRE installed? Have you checked to make sure that Java actually works? You could try install openjdk java from the repository and see if libreoffice works. The reason I suggest installing openjdk is because there is pretty much nothing to "configure" after installation ... May be that will help.

Crap, I didn't realize this Fedora install didn't have it by default. Didn't have much
I've installed it now using yum install java-1.7.0-openjdk but no Office apps are working as yet.

Re: LibreOffice Not starting after inst of theallation
Where there errors during the LibreOffice install? If so, it probably didn't install correctly. When I installed it (prior to Fedora 17), I have to use the --nogpgcheck switch for both the programs extract, and the Menus extract - but I think I had RPMs to work with. (Hope this helps a little)
Fedora 17 comes with LibreOffice (except base, but you can easily add that).

There were no errors during install. I've just installed F17 but it didn't have LibreOffice

Re: LibreOffice Not starting after inst of theallation
Perhaps you installed from the Live CD/DVD - the stripped down version. I would guess you should be able to go into yumex and find libreoffice, and install it. If you don;t have yumex: yum install yumex

Re: LibreOffice Not starting after inst of theallation
Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but:
Fedora doesn't have a group package for installing Libre Office.
If you install from the DVD installation media you get Libre Office installed by default.
If you install from CD (at least the KDE spin) you don't get Libre Office on the install medium.
Libre Office has dependencies that are not fulfilled if you install from a tar file from the Libre Office site.
As I see it, the only way to successfully install Libre Office is to install (or use) a graphical package manager. Yumex is one such.
Libre Office is in the main Fedora Repositories.
If you look for Libre Office in the list of packages available and mark for install all of those that look useful, all the rest of the necessary dependencies will be bought in automatically.
Hope that helps.

Re: LibreOffice Not starting after inst of theallation
In previous Fedora versions I have had great success installing from rpms - provided I specified the --nogpgcheck. That said, anyone with Fedora 17 should use yumex - way easier, even though you have to pick the individual packages (just a check mark for each!).

Re: LibreOffice Not starting after inst of theallation
This is a guess about what might be happening with your LibreOffice installation ... I think it could be due to an issue with Java (OpenJDK).
I recently installed F17 Gnome as a test and tried to add JabRef (which uses Java). Although I had first installed OpenJDK ( java-1.7.0-openjdk), I could not get JabRef to start -- double-clicking on its icon did nothing, and it would not run when called from a Terminal. So I checked its symlink in /usr/bin/java and the "Properties" indicated that the symlink was broken. (I didn't know why it was broken or how to fix it, although I did some Googling).
As a workaround, I discovered that installing Oracle's Java JRE solved the problem. Mauriat Miranda has clear, step-by-step instructions on his website:
http://www.mjmwired.net/resources/mj...-f17.html#java
Miranda, Mauriat. " Personal Fedora 17 Installation Guide."
You might try this and see if it solves your problem. HTH.

Re: LibreOffice Not starting after inst of theallation
Finally the problem is solved. I just searched "libpng" in the ADD/REMOVE SOFTWARE.
Ticked all the files with "libpng". And triggered "APPLY"
Then i tried starting the LibreOffice and it worked for me !!!!
Thank U everybody.

Re: LibreOffice Not starting after inst of theallation
LibreOffice 3.5.5.3 is in the Fedora 17 repositories.
To install it (if you installed from a live CD), or to install the full packages (if you installed from the DVD), just install the "libreoffice" package with the package installer of your choice. e.g. In a terminal run
Code:
su -c "yum install -y libreoffice"
Downloading tarballs from the web for software that is already in the Fedora repos is only going to make your life more complicated.
