How to Keep your core System and personal Data safe while updating to latest Fedora?

Hi everyone,

Almost everything is in the title!
Which partitions do you keep?
Which partitions do you reformat, while doing a clean install?
Personaly, I never format /var and /home partitions when I update to latest Fedora.
It has been working quite ok up to now, but I was wondering what are the latest best practices on this issue?
Thanks for your comments and advice and keep up the good work!
Cheers,

Personally I backup home to a usb and format all. This go round I forget to check off the format home partition and it miraculously keep all the user data intact. But then again I only setup partitions like:

/
/boot
/home
swap

You should make a backup first ;-)

You might be able to keep /home if it's on a separate partition, but /var has a lot of temporary files you might want to get rid off.
