New Printer. Fails to list the parallel port LPT #1 for selection.

I've just installed Fedora 17. I've done all the updates and I have tryed to install my EPSON C86 colour printer. I selected New Printer, but it fails to list the parallel port as an option?? I've searched the web for answers, but could not find anything useful that would help me. I noticed that Fedora 16 had a similar problem...I think it was to do with the module parport not being freed by another application...but this was apparently fixed??

I dont know if this is relavent but if I do an lsmod then I get the lines:-
parport 39143 2 ppdev,parport_pc

Has anyone got any ideas how I could fix this???

I spent several hours trying to get the parallel port working, but gave up in the end!!! I used the usb port in the end and after lots of fun downloading drivers I eventually got that to work (it was'nt my preference, but hey at least it works now, so thats good). Sadly with good old windows the parallel port just worked straight off. I dream of the day that Linux installs and runs stuff as easily as windows!!! Dont get me wrong here I much prefer using Linux then any other operating system....I've been using unix the majority of my working life!!!
