Re: Booting .img file

Use the same command to burn the image to a flash drive. Then boot from it.

Re: Booting .img file

I make a Bootable CD using

Quote:
mkisofs -o <isoimage> -b isolinux/isolinux.bin -c isolinux/boot.cat -no-emul-boot -boot-load-size 4 -boot-info-table <root-of-iso-tree>
Do you mean, do something like this...

Quote:
mkisofs -o <isoimage> -b isolinux/isolinux.bin -c isolinux/boot.cat -no-emul-boot -boot-load-size 4 -boot-info-table sda-backup.img
?

I meant to use dd command to burn the image to a flash drive and then to boot from it.

Re: Booting .img file

Why using DVD's while you can use a USB? You can burn your image to a USB flash drive with this command:
Quote:
dd if=<file> of=<device> bs=4M; sync
where <file> is your img file and <device> is a USB device, /dev/sdb, for instance.
Then configure bios to boot from usb and use it.

Re: Booting .img file

Because using a CD or DVD, i will never get filesystem errors...

It will be very reliable...
It will boot like a Live CD

You can't do that.
It is not possible.
The boot system that you have copied depends on the disk being WRITABLE. A CD/DVD is READONLY. It won't work unless you perform EXTREMELY invasive changes on the filesystem structure.
