Can't think of any. Do you have an /etc/rc.d/rc.local file? That's the only thing I can think of that would have custom commands to do that sort of thing. It's also possible that some 3rd-party package is the culprit. Have you ever installed the proprietary nvidia drivers?

There's no rc.local file.
I have not installed any drivers. Don't know how.
Would it help to install drivers?
