No sound through HDMI with ivy bridge

Hi,

This problem shouldn't be too difficult since it was working on Kubuntu, but I just don't know where to start!

I've just moved over to fedora 17 from Kubuntu, along with a hardware upgrade. I cannot get the sound to work in fedora, but when I tried booting my old Kubuntu system the sound just works.

the device from lspci is:
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation Panther Point High Definition Audio Controller (rev 04)

I am running an i5-3750k on a z77 motherboard and using the on board graphics and sound.

Everything has been left as default apart from selecting HDMI output with the gnome settings manager, and fiddling with the volumes with alsamixer (which does nothing in either system when HDMI is the output).

This is my results from the alsa script: http://www.alsa-project.org/db/f=c1e...cc1f2970ee2013

Update:

My device is coming up in aplay -l and I can play sound to the device using aplay, but pavucontrol is only seeing the first HDMI device. How can I get it to recognise the other device? Is there a way I can block the first device if that might help? I have no idea how to go about this problem, so any help would be much appreciated. I really like fedora and do not want to install Ubuntu just to get sound.

Re: No sound through HDMI with ivy bridge

This is an excerpt showing the differences in the alsa information script results using sdiff:

On the left is the results of the ALSA Information script from fedora where the sound does not work. On the right is kubuntu where the sound is working.

| means a line is different and >,< are for lines that are not present on the other side.

I can get sound now if i type

Code:
aplay -D plughw:0,7 /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Right.wav
But I don't think this device is coming up in 'pavucontrol'.

I tried adding /etc/pulse/default.pa
Code:
load-module module-alsa-sink device=hw:0,7
and
load-module module-alsa-sink device=plughw:0,7
but then alsa does not start, and nothing works.

So more explicitly, I think the display port or dvi is being detected by pavucontrol but it is ignoring the HDMI port which my television is plugged into. How can I get it to see my HDMI port which is at 0,7.

It is coming up with aplay -l

Code:
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****

Re: No sound through HDMI with ivy bridge

FWIW, I have the same problem. Intel DH77DF MB 64 but Fedora 17. I can reproduce the problem using Knoppix (a 2.6 kernel and presumably 32-bit). OTOH, Windows 7 has no problems with sound. From this I conclude that its a problem in the snd_hda_intel driver.

Re: No sound through HDMI with ivy bridge

The second link led me to discovering that -D plughw:0,7 was what I wanted. Thanks.
