Re: Firefox flash
have you installed flashplugin?
i recommned you, in case you use firefox, to install an extention named "flashreplacer". you will be able to watch flash content in an external player (umplayer will be my pick).
to install the flashplugin just install "autoplus" and further on it will be quite easy to install flash.

Re: Firefox flash
Does "about : plugins" page on Firefox show flash? If flash is properly installed, you should see the following ...
Code:
Shockwave Flash
File: libflashplayer.so
Version:
Shockwave Flash 11.2 r202

You can do an yum update, if you have installed it from fedora repos.

Note, Firefox will say that the java plugin is out of date if you just have the plugin disabled even if the java is actually up-to-date (a hint this is the problem is that the message from the update test will be prefixed with "Missing Java?"

"Missing Java? Firefox has disabled your outdated version of Java. Please upgrade to the latest version"

If that occurs, just go to your plugins page and hit the "Enable" button on the Java plugin
Also, the java plugin being disabled has nothing to do with flash working or not.
We don't know what this "obsolete" java is, try this to show all the installed java's:
Quote:
yum list installed | grep java-
|
Then post what the results of that command were on the forum

Re: Firefox flash
goddamn right, flash has nothing to do with java.
back in time, i had an issue. i had chrome and mozilla installed in centOS 6. when i had the flash activated on chrome, it stopped working on mozilla. pretty strange.
you also can try a firefox extention named "flashaid".

Re: Firefox flash
Another quirk of Firefox is that you can add a plugin and it won't notice it because it honors the pluginreg.dat file as being correct. It might have that plugin noted as "INVALID" in the file. So in some cases after you install a new plugin you need to stop Firefox, delete ~/.mozilla/firefox/*.default/pluginreg.dat and then restart Firefox

Rich, did you ever solve that problem? I'm experiencing the same thing. With both Firefox 12 and 13, flash is installed [which I had to do separately from the chrome install] but it doesn't work. In FF, all you see in Youtube, for example, is a black box where the video should be. Flash does, however, work with Google Chrome.
IIRC, this started happening with the current version of Adobe Flash player [11.2.202.236]. I'm using Fedora 16 with all updates applied.

Does the Tools -> Add-ons -> Plugins show the Flash plugin?
Does the ~/.mozilla/firefox/*.default/pluginreg.dat have a legitimate looking entry for "libflashplugin.so" or does the flash entry have "[INVALID]" stamped in it?
