Live usb fedora 17 installation problem

hello Linux ppl,

At the moment I am looking for distro to replace (or use beside) my windows.
I made a live usb with fedora 17. Runned few times, liked it and decide to install. I had ubuntu and windows 7 on my HD. hardware: i7, asus sibertooth x58, ati HD 6870, 12gig RAM, 3 HD (2 set to raid 0) windows 7 is/was running on raid part of hard disk.

During installation I chose to replace other linux installations. After rebooting I dont see windows in booting options and my RAID partitions are overwritten with some partitions from Fedora ehm and I am not happy with it. But its not all. When I chose to run fedora I get blue background screen and mouse pointer and by there it stops booting.. I can move the mouse and thats it.

Any ideas what I did worng? And how I can fix it..?. I have some important files on my windows... so cant just reinstall all stuf.

P.S. I am new in Linux, so I dont even know where to begin or what shoul i search for. So any hint or key words are welcome

hmmm...no answer.. no one even proposed to go and **** myself was it such a stupid question... for a noob? I think I will try to go back to ubuntu. Thanks for your time. What I really liked about fedora is the start menu. By the way lango is a buggy (crashed after every 4 or 5 games) , but still nice game to kill your time.
cheers

Re: Live usb fedora 17 installation problem

I believe 'replace other linux installations' wipes the hard disk clean and it works the same in ubuntu too! But if you haven't started writing on the formatted disks you should be able to recover the data. What setup did you have in the third hard disk?

Sometimes reading the manual or searching the forums about the options while you install before click, next, helps.

Re: Live usb fedora 17 installation problem

Configuration is 3 he each 1 Tb.2 set to raid 0. Windows running on raid. 3d was for Linux whole disk. Thats why I chose option Replace. BUT as I wrote: when I chose to run fesora, after entering su pass user name I get blue background (not blue windows screen, but background)I can move mouse and thats it. Excuus my English. Its bad and I am posting it from phone.

Re: Live usb fedora 17 installation problem

hmm.. i guess my english is really bad
what i did is:
1) made live usb
2) used it in live mode several times.
3) decided to replace my Ubuntu distro on my desktop
4) installed it
5) rebooted pc
6) entered su pas, user name and password
7) it boots till I get blue background and mouse pointer. and AT THIS point it stops loading further. So I dont get in any gui (kde or gnome... i dont know how its called by default).. so I didnot get to the point where I can chose video drivers.
8) booted in live mode from USB and found out that it messed not only the grub (windows is not listed anymore in bootmenu) but also my raid disk. (during booting motherboard shows error on raid conf)

9) felt my self 00cked up and tried to search for help overhere

configuration 3 hard disks. 2 set to raid 0 (for running windows) and 1 for linux... whole disk!

Re: Live usb fedora 17 installation problem

I wanted to ask whether you installed proprietary ATI drivers.

I assume you have not.

Can you post the output of
Code:
cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log

1) Boot your live usb
1.2) Does that OS have black or greyish layout?
2) Open a console/terminal/shell window
3) Post the outputs of:
Code:
blkid|grep ntfs
lsblk
sudo fdisk /dev/sda -l
lspci
Do you want to keep windows (dual boot) or switch to linux?

Re: Live usb fedora 17 installation problem

excuse me, but I gave up on fedora 17 and just finished installing Ubuntu... and ow miracle... it starts gui kidding. If the problem is in ATI videocard (I know that it s the worst video card I could get to use under linux) then I pass and try some other distros which have less problems with it. But thanks and anyway I stick to linux as a second system. cheerzz

by the way. tried 2 times to install.. both times I downloaded and made new USB (to make sure that it s not on Live USB) and both times only got to that point with pointer and blue background.
