How to make icons smaller in Fedora 17

How do you make the icons on the side bar and application icons smaller?

Why are they so big by default?

you can edit the dconf-editor. But its cumbersome.

Thanks. Now that the grid icons are smaller, what do they call the icons on the side or dash bar on the left?
