Icons on the Desktop in Gnome 3.4.1
Just installed F17 and am not able to put launchers and documents on the desktop. With F16 I used to do this by copying a .desktop files to the folder /home/myself/Desktop/ but this does not work now. Help please!

Re: Icons on the Desktop in Gnome 3.4.1
Install gnome-tweak-tool and make sure the file manager is set to handle the desktop.

Do not try to run gnome-tweak-tool as root. Execute it from your user account.

Re: Icons on the Desktop in Gnome 3.4.1
Used GNOME Shell Extensions: "Advanced Settings in User Menu" which is the same as the gnome-tweak-tool. Switched on Desktop: "Have Filemanager handle the desktop", and Voila! Thanks!

Re: Icons on the Desktop in Gnome 3.4.1
If the gnome-tweak-tool installed, simply search for "Advanced Settings" from the Desktop. Alternatively tools are "Docky" and "Cario" that you can use with the Gnome Desktop.
Oh, @Krister Hallerg sorry we wrote together same time

If you look the menu items associated with the first post in this thread, there is "Thread Tools". From that (drop-down) menu, you can choose "Mark the thread as SOLVED".
