automounting firewire drives in gnome?

I noticed that my firewire drives don't automount in gnome. In fact, I can't seem to mount them without having to authenticate like I can with USB drives.

Is there something special about firewire drives from USB drives? I just noticed this with F17 but honestly I don't know if I'd tried firewire drives under gnome til after my F17 update so it could have been this way with previous release.

I can go to nautilus and mount the drive but it asks for my password.

The udisks command can mount it without authentication though.

Re: automounting firewire drives in gnome?

I never noticed it here.

The one firewire drive I have, I mount in /etc/fstab so I don't try automounting it.

But, go into the disk utility and select the drive. Then under the window that shows the partitions, ther eis a little icon that has gears (for more actions). click it and you get in the pop-up menu an option for "Edit Mount Options" select that, and there is a check box "require additional authorization to mount" make sure that box is unchecked.

Re: automounting firewire drives in gnome?

That box is unchecked.

Heh, I wondered where automatic mount was configured in gnome 3. Thanks for pointing out the Disks utility.

However, I checked the drive connected with firewire and Automatic Mount is on, Show in user interface is checked, require additional authorizations to mount is unchecked.

But it doesn't automount.

If I replace the firewire cable with USB, the options look the same, but it automatically mounts.

So something about firewire drives is being skipped.
