Empathy requires telepathy installed?

Why does empathy require telepathy to be installed? I thought the latter was a KDE application.

I wanted to remove telepathy because after I setup my online accounts for gnome, I kept getting the KDEWallet popup for the wallet password.

I'm using Fedora 17 64-bit. I didn't have this problem in F16. How do I use empathy and gnome's chat integration without having telepathy to open.

Thanks! :-)

Yes. It is how empathy works: https://live.gnome.org/Empathy

Thank you Adunaic. Previously however, I never had to worry about KDEWallet popping up everytime at startup. Is there a way I can fix this?

If you are not using KDE then remove it. If something relies on it, they will tell you.

You mean remove KDEWallet? Ok I'll give that a shot. Thanks! :-)

It looks like I'll have to remove kde-runtime for this. But doing that will erase ktorrent.

Is there a way I can tell gnome to use my login to save my online passwords. I think that's how it used to work before.

Re: Empathy requires telepathy installed?

I found a way to get rid of the annoyinf wallet popup. Here is how:

Do not use Gnome's System settings or the profile menu on the top right corner to setup your online accounts. Open Empathy and setup your accounts there. The chat integration with Gnome continues to work and it doesn't need kwallet.

The only disadvantage of this is you lose Google Docs sync. It's not much of a problem for me as of now.
