upgrade won't start

I ran preupgrade.
I have /boot/upgrade/vmlinuz (no number, just vmlinuz. It was not x, so I did chmod +x)
grub.cfg has linux /boot/upgrade/vmlinuz
But when I try to boot, grub says "error, you must load the kernel first"

So, preupgrade doesn't work, again!! Never has!

Any tips on how to get it to work??

I have this error too. It does not let me upgrade by selecting that boot option.

Preupgrade used grub2 only, but iused grub1...

Preupgrade has never worked for me, although I always try it. I been trying since Fed 12 I think!
