And it is NOT REQUIRED, WANTED, or WELCOME.

The optimal driver for AMD GPUs is built right into the LINUX KERNEL.

lol. i have to agree, sorta. i know nvidia has been getting their drivers out on fedora 17 with each kernel release, but amd hasn't since before 3.3.7 - 3.4. I know the 12.6 beta drivers worked with 3.3.7, but not for kernel 3.4+. And yes, the open source driver works okay, but not for gaming graphics (though OpenArena ran fine except for full screen mode which had currupted video)

Its not only the games (i dont play anyway)...

Most important IMHO is the better battery life and lower temps.

Or maybe after after getting that kind of response:

What is it with Fedora Forums that every time someone asks for help with an AMD/ATI graphics issue they get this childish response?
Perhaps all the smug jokers who think it's clever to do this would be prepared to start a fund to enable those who may not have spare cash to just buy a new graphics card to please Fedora can do so!

Installing on fedora 17 kernel x86_86 3.4.3. Will report back.

Looks like its working so far. Has that annoying "Testing" watermark so I do this:

cd ~/.Documents
gedit fixwatermark.sh

Then copy/paste this into gedit:

#!/bin/sh
DRIVER=/lib64/xorg/modules/drivers/fglrx_drv.so
for x in $(objdump -d $DRIVER|awk '/call/&&/EnableLogo/{print "\\x"$2"\\x"$3"\\x"$4"\\x"$5"\\x"$6}'); do
sed -i "s/$x/\x90\x90\x90\x90\x90/g" $DRIVER
done

then Save
chmod +x to make it executable
su -c './fixwatermark.sh'
log out and back in.

Please note that this driver will only support HD 5000, HD 6000 and HD 7000 series GPUs.

The only difference is that the log in screen is totally black...

Remove it and all works fine (?)..

Well, the drivers are in the rpm fusion repo officially and when I install them (not from the testing repo) it works fine, but I get the watermark saying Unsupported Hardware.

I'm using an AMD Radeon HD 6520G. Fully updated Fedora 17 64 bit running kernel 3.4.4-3.

Any ideas on this?
