I dont mind the purchase, even though I hate facebook. But Will the browser remain open source?

I didn't think opera was open source in the first place. One of the reason's I've usually steered clear of it, even though I do realise it's pretty good.

This is pretty speculative on my part as i don't use Opera (although I had a peek on the latest in Puppy Linux, thought it looked good but pages didn't render fine, which I don't know if it was Opera's or Puppy's fault). But it has some nice features like built-in email and, specially the file sharing, p2p style.
I think it's quite popular somewhere in Asia.
From one point of view, one can think that they have a pretty mature browser that struggles to 'take off' and would get the facebook user base to know it. Facebook would be looking on Opera's sharing features but then what was born to be a means to avoid 'big brother' would become its tool...
I'm not sure if long standing Opera users would like to have their email/file sharing owned by fb.

Bad News for me I really don't like FB but if Opera went to them I went to another browser too. Problem of personal Data and email of registration People that pass to FB.

I like Opera for web browsing and it's economical. Besides being free, you never can buy anything with it. Placing orders on secure pages usually doesn't work. If you have to answer a captcha, that usually doesn't work either. I also can't contribute product images to the Amazon web pages using Opera.

All these problems have simple fixes, which you can find on the web and they all will recur as soon as you install a new version of Opera. You get a notice that you need to do that about every third time you log on.

Facebook should be looking to recoup $32bln of lost capitalization and a badly soiled market reputation.

This should be good if they were to buy it and make it open source.
