Re: Fedora 17 RC4 declared GOLD ==> RC4 = FINAL
yes, that's the point of the freeze.
errorxp: firewalld isn't 'scrapped'. We just delayed switching it in as the default firewall until (at least) the GUI config tool is written. It's currently planned for F18.

Re: Fedora 17 RC4 declared GOLD ==> RC4 = FINAL
Fedora 17 RC4 declared GOLD ==> RC4 = FINAL. Is is really the case? My F17 VM received quite a few updates from the fedora "updates" repo over the weekend. Two kernel updates in a row from yesterday to today. The repolist shows there are currently 1964 packages in the "updates" repo for x86_64 arch. It it is indeed final then I guess I have to enable the "updates" repo when installing F17 into my main rig later .

Should I remove firewalld?

Good question! Mine showed a few updates too (without updates-testing). But, is it necessary to remake the iso - one could simply connect to internet while installing and install the 'latest' system - no?

This is exactly what I am suggesting in my bottom line.
But it kinda like saying Fedora has software fixes or updates, if you like, even on the first day of its launch. No?

Re: Fedora 17 RC4 declared GOLD ==> RC4 = FINAL
That is exactly what it is.
Fedora freezes the updates prior to release to give time to build the media and test it. However, updates just don't stop happening during that build/test period, they just don't get into the the release media. The only way that they could possibly have a release without updates/fixes on the first day would be to stop all development instead of only freezing the updates. Not a good option in my opinion.
I would rather have the updates, even if there are quite a few on the first day of a release. (it's probably a few weeks worth of updates since only blocker bugs were pushed into the stable repos since sometime around the first week of May while they were testing the release candidates and deciding on a release)
Or would you rather they pushed all of the updates (some untested) into the stable repo, and built the media right before the release without testing it?

Re: Fedora 17 RC4 declared GOLD ==> RC4 = FINAL
DBelton, thanks for your explanation on the rationale behind. I agree with you on most of the points. I reckon the packages that go into the "updates" repo must have passed certain quality assurance test or they would be still in testing repo. So, it is still safe to install with the "updates" repo enabled. Having said that, I think I will check the final checksum of F17 iso when it finally release before installing. The wait is excruciating .

Yes. Without the gui config tool you can only set temporary configs in firewalld.
It's probably best to;
yum erase firewalld
yum install iptables system-config-firewall.
systemctl enable iptables.service

Re: Fedora 17 RC4 declared GOLD ==> RC4 = FINAL
Indeed the RC4 isos are now available on
http://download.fedoraproject.org/pu...x/releases/17/
and thus seem to be the official release ISOs. Official release is in appx 90 minutes ;-)
