Why Is My Scrollbar Theme Inconsistent?

Hello Everyone,

As the title suggests, the scrollbars in my desktop seem to have an inconsistent theme. This is apparent in the attached screenshot. The terminal window on the right has a different scrollbar than the Firefox window on the left. Though I have illustrated the problem with Firefox, it is not the only application that suffers from this.

I would like all of my windows to have a scrollbar like the one my terminal has. Have any of you encountered this behavior before? What is causing this? Is there a way to fix it?

Potentially Relevant System Information:
I'm running Fedora 16 and have both Gnome 3 and Xfce installed.

Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide.

Re: Why Is My Scrollbar Theme Inconsistent?

Unfortunately this is not a bug - it's just because of GTK2 and GTK3.

In your screenshot, Firefox uses GTK2 and the Terminal is using GTK3. The only way to "fix" it is to use another theme that's designed to make both GTK's more uniform. I think there's a couple on Gnome-look.org. If I get the time I'll throw in a link or two.

Re: Why Is My Scrollbar Theme Inconsistent?

Actually quite a few of the user contributed themes on gnome-look are made to look mostly the same on either gtk2 or gtk3... just seems the default Adwaita theme isn't so good at it lol.

Here's one example http://gnome-look.org/content/show.p...content=140562 or http://gnome-look.org/content/show.p...content=148527

But it's all up to your taste really

Re: Why Is My Scrollbar Theme Inconsistent?

Interesting that the development team would choose a default theme that results in such variability across common applications, when more consistent choices are available.

Thank you for the links, I'm going to give those a try.

Re: Why Is My Scrollbar Theme Inconsistent?

I think Adwaita uses some new features of GTK+ 3 that can't easily be emulated in a GTK+ 2 theme, but that was a deliberate choice. But yes, there are other themes that look more similar.

Hopefully Firefox etc. will be ported to GTK+ 3 one of these days...
