CD Drive Trouble After Updates

I recently updated my Fedora 16. I typically use Yum instead of Apper for all updates. After doing an update, if I boot up my computer, and try to access my CD drive, I get an "non-specified error: not authorized." and an info tab pops up and says "unable to mount 0B removable media". I've noticed when I boot, the icons in the bottom right, sound, and all of those, are now in nice colors. The funny thing is, if I log out, and log back in, my CD drive works fine, and all those nice colored icons, have changed to regular black/white, like before I did the update. I am on the latest kernel, which I think is 3.3.6.3, but I am at work now, and unsure. It is like I have no permission for the CD drive, until I log out, and back in. If I log in as root, it also works. I did notice that the CD drives are now part of the "cdrom" group, and I used my group manager software, I think it is "KUser" to add myself to that group. I am running Fedora 16 with KDE desktop. Anyone have any ideas? One more thing, I CAN burn a DVD when I boot up, but after burning it, I cannot access it without doing the log out/log back in.

Thanks

Re: CD Drive Trouble After Updates

Do your logs show the unsuccessful attemts to mount the CD? (/var/log/secure, /var/log/messages).

A shot in the dark is: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=123300

Apparently it's "unspecified" instead of "nonspecified". Search for the keywords:
unspecified error: not authorized Linux

Which burning program do you use?

If it is setuid root then it wouldn't be affected by this problem ;-)

Re: CD Drive Trouble After Updates

I use K3B to burn CD's and DVD's. So last night, when I booted up, and logged in, I selected "KDE Plasma Workspace" instead of the default (which is still KDE) and the problem went away. It seems like a permission issue, but I don't know how logging out/back in, and selecting the KDE desktop manually on bootup changes things, as I am still the same user.

Thanks
