Re: F17 rc3

I'm thinking of grabbing the XFCE spin of RC3. It must be pretty close to gold now. Is it likely be renamed without further changes?

Re: F17 rc3

The difference is precisely two things, neither of which you would notice in English:

https://admin.fedoraproject.org/upda...s-2.5.0-3.fc17 makes fonts look rather better in Tamil

https://admin.fedoraproject.org/upda...3-3.4.3-2.fc17 fixes a bug where you couldn't change the keyboard layout on the GNOME unlock screen

Re: F17 rc3

That's cool, I have traveled all over the world and visted 27 countries over thirty some odd years, and partied with some great people. As for me I always' tried to learn some of the languages..."Ein bier bitte" and so on. So I am happy that linux makes its OS available in all languages posible. Easier to translate and keep up with the the global community.

Re: F17 rc3

Fedora-17-x86_64-Live-KDE.iso RC3 is no longer booting with UEFI bios, although it did with RC2. It goes through the motions and almost gets there, but, I have to go to a tty, log in as liveuser and execute "startx" to get "X" working.

It complains that "File '/usr/bin/plymouthd' seems to be deleted".

Under UEFI mode I still get the graphic grub screen. When booting the same Live CD on a Dell Studio 17 without UEFI I get the older grub screen. I read that the graphic grub screen was to be removed in RC3. I'm assuming this may have something to do with it.

I'll file a bug report as soon as I can.

Edit: This is using an ASUS Sabertooth 990FX motherboard with UEFI bios.

Edit #2: I was a faulty CD. I reburned with a new RW-CD and it's working fine. Nevermind. I really have to start using my USB sticks for this.

Re: F17 rc3

I installed the XFCE Spin RC3. I've not encountered any problems.

The only thing I can't work out is how to download updates for F17. I tried changing fedora-updates.repo to the specific path for F17 and it still can't get the repo data. I can download packages from fedora.repo without issue.

Re: F17 rc3

@Pumpino Isn't Updates enabled after release? I think all updates are in Updates-Testing until then. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. That hasn't switched yet has it?

Re: F17 rc3

I think you are correct.

Until after the freeze (which is after the release) I believe all updates except for fixes to the blocker bugs are in updates-testing. I think blocker bug fixes are the only ones getting pushed into updates (or fedora)

Try enabling updates-testing and see if you get updates then.

Re: F17 rc3

Yeah, the updates folder doesn't have any RPMs in it for F17.

Wouldn't enabling updates-testing pull in updates that aren't yet ready for stable at the time of release, or are all RPMs in updates-testing pushed at the time of release?

Re: F17 rc3

In F17, updates-testing is the update repo until release, so, it's not like using updates-testing after the release. I've just enabled updates-testing and doing the update now. Keeping my fingers crossed that the new kernel won't cause a problem.

I had to use selinux=0 to install from the DVD. Selinux didn't like the fact that /boot/efi was on a FAT32 partition. I guess it's still a hacked version of legacy grub, because I see no grub.cfg, or, /etc/default/grub. The UEFI motherboard was an experiment in terror, can't wait to see what a reboot does.

Re: F17 rc3

Looks to the NorthEast and notices a rather large mushroom cloud.... Yep.. GoinEasy9 just hit the reboot.

I haven't had many issues with updates-testing for the past few weeks in F17, so most of the updates are fairly stable.
