Unhappy [SOLVED] Can't install stable wine

Hi everyone
Sorry but I have searched for a few hours on how to do this and can only find out the opposite!

I am trying to install the latest stable Wine (v1.4) but Fedora will only install the testing version (1.5). I'm running F16, I've checked that enabled=0 for all the entries in /etc/yum.repos.d/fedora-updates-testing.repo

Not sure what else to and it's driving me crazy! I just want to play one of my favourite Windows 3.1 games.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Can't install stable wine

Have you tried Wine 1.5? Does it work? Unless you are having actual problems with it I wouldn't waste any time worrying about it.

"yum provides wine" tells me that 1.3.29 is the original F16 version, and 1.5.0 is the current latest update. I don't know if there were any 1.4 releases in the repos in between, but if so you might be able to work back to them with "yum downgrade wine".

Re: Can't install stable wine

Yeah my game doesn't work with 1.5 unfortunately. I haven't heard of the 'yum downgrade' command, I'll give that a burl.

Thanks a bunch

OK so this page says that the current version of Wine in Fedora is 1.4 - http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/AndreasBierfert/Wine

But anyway, when I try yum downgrade wine it says:

No Match for available package: wine-1.3.29-1.fc16.i686

I did (admittedly, a very quick) search for 'yum downgrade wine no match' but couldn't find anything. Do I need to set up extra repositories or something?

Re: Can't install stable wine

You can download the 1.4 version packages of wine for F16 from koji and manually install them.

Re: Can't install stable wine

Ah thanks! Exactly what I was looking for, and I got to learn a lot about installing rpm files from the command line due to a bug in apper. Unfortunately my game still doesn't work with 1.4 so I'm looking backwards for the version that does.

Thanks guys!
