EDIT: linux32 sh et-linux-2.56-2.x86.run
Well crap, why didn't any were I've read about x86_64 suggest you can use "linux32"???????????
Ignore this whole thread, just use linux32 in front of it :wall:
Ok, if your like me and have an addiction to et but got your self a shinny 64bit proc and os and hate the fact that you would have to intall a 32bit os to feed your addiction, then sit back and read.
First, the internet sucks for searching et and x86_64
The only thing I got out of it was this durning install:
Code:
# sh et-linux-2.56-2.x86.run
Verifying archive integrity... All good.
Uncompressing Enemy Territory 2.56..................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
This installation doesn't support glibc-2.1 on Linux / x86_64
(tried to run setup)
See http://zerowing.idsoftware.com/linux/ for troubleshooting
The setup program seems to have failed on x86_64/glibc-2.1
See http://zerowing.idsoftware.com/linux/ for troubleshooting
If you follow that, the best info you get is this:
Quote:
Setup and execution on 64 bits CPUs
If you are running Linux on a 64 bit CPU (such as AMD's Opteron), and if your system is backwards compatible so that it can execute 32 bits x86 binaries, then the regular Quake III Arena binaries should work (your mileage may vary).
It's likely that the installer scripts will get confused though, and will refuse to install giving you an error: "This installation doesn't support glibc-2.1 on Linux / unknown". You will have to extract the game files manually by passing --keep on the command line when running the setup script. Once the files are unpacked, you will need to copy them manually to /usr/local/games. You probably want to have a working installation to refer to while doing this. This also applies to RTCW and ET

Ok, so we pass --keep, joy thinks for the help. Atleast its a starting place.
Alright, enough blah blah lets get to the part about being able to play, shall we? (keep in mind, internet searches turned up nothing for me but the above and YMMV if you follow what i figured out and it doesn't work) ;-)
1.)
Code:
# sh et-linux-2.56-2.x86.run --keep
2.)
Code:
# ls
etlinux2256update.x86.run et-linux-2.56-2.x86.run setup.4662
et-linux-2.55.x86.run Maps WolfET.exe
3.)
Code:
# setup.4662/setup.data/bin/Linux/x86/setup
Thats right, the rest looks familiar!
Make sure your nvidia_64 drivers are installed.
Logout/logon, whatever you need to do and fire up
ENJOY!
If you run into NO SOUND like I did, run
Code:
echo "et.x86 0 0 direct" >/proc/asound/card0/pcm0p/oss
If you already figured this out, congrats, & shame on you for not posting and wasteing an hour of my time.
Thats all, i'm off to feed my addiction!
/me thinks that now he has et and mp3 play back in his 64bit OS he is now happy finaly.........
