GThumb ignores images

I have a fresh install of 64-bit Fedora 16. When I run GThumb, it does see my image files (JPG and PNG), but it always shows them as small icons, even if I double click on them. In other words, it seems as though it does not know that these are image files. As an example, I expected that I could zoom in and out using +/-, nope.

Is there another simple image viewer that does not try to import and catalog the images (as shotwell seems to do). I am trying to view transient images that will change and be removed frequently (I generate the images in perl scripts..... I look at them and then maybe generate new ones with the same names).\

Re: GThumb ignores images

This is a fresh install, and the first user created has the problem. Turns out that root does not have a problem. My first thought was that it was related to selinux, nope, not that.

Seems that it is possible for gthumb to simply not work for some users. Have not yet figured out what the trigger point is for making it work or not. These guys had the same issue.

OK, so how did I fix it? Well, after I figured out that there was a bad setting in one of the configruation settings, I did the following:
  1. Changed my home directory
  2. Logout and then login (to knew home directory)
  3. Copy many of the "." directories from the new home directory to the old one
  4. Change my home directory back
  5. Logout and then login

And now it all works just fine. Unclear what item was left in a bad state. I had tried regenerating many of the dot files, this was more of a nuclear explosion type solution. and.... it worked.
