I don't really try to access any of the other computers on my home network via SAMBA or other type things. I do use SSH for access, either locally at home or remotely if it isn't blocked. I have not noticed any negative consequences.
I'll have to look for that warning. The only thing I recall reading was that it just meant that when one first tried t access the network, it would have the delay then. However, if one did not access the network, then there seems to be no downside to doing this.
BTW, I also use my network for printing, and do not seem to have noticed any impact there either.
