Changing of the mountpoints from /media to /run/media/glenn sure is clunky.

The only thing restraining me from using some rather harsh words is that I haven't looked into the cause for this change yet. Perhpas it stops the Earth's poles from switching, so it's absolutely crucial.

Anyway, this is going to break some of my scripts, saved paths, etc. Ah, well. Not to mention the nuisance when entering /aaargh/long/obscure/path/to/imgoingnuts/some/removable/helpmybrainmelting/media (yes, tab completition helps a bit, so what) in the shell.

It's all about The Desktop (artist formerly known as Gnome) now, it seems. Who cares what happens in the background, as long as we have a shiny wallpaper and elegant icons popping out now and then.

Are all partitions still listed under "Removable devices"? Such as / and /home, etc? Now that's a nice feature! I know I rather enjoy umounting my / every morning so I couldn't live without this. And I bet this feature is also keeping the Moon from detaching from Earth, so it's here to stay for ever and ever.

So there we go, both magnetic poles and our precious satellite are all safe and accounted for, so who are we to complain...

Okay, this IS going to upset my Unison scripts (guess I better create symbolic links to avoid this in the future).

So now we have /mnt, /media/ and /run/media, a bit excessive if you ask me...
What is the idea behind this change?

This is caused by the inclusion of udisks2 in Fedora 17... See:

From a security standpoint I can understand the change. Change is sometimes difficult to deal with. In this instance, I guess we just have to do a little more typing to list the content of the folder(s). Or create an alias, which I believe one other member has pointed out.

I may be missing something here, but I've got an F17 beta fully updated on this machine. KDE spin.

I've just mounted my Kingston memory stick and it's turning up under:

/media/Kingston

I've taken a look in "/run" and I don't even have a "media" folder there. Is this change Gnome only or is it universal to Fedora.

Maybe you have an entry in /etc/fstab that overrides udisks2?

I just read the first thread in Comment 5, and it looks like it's just gnome at the moment. But as soon as other DEs switch to udisks2, it should affect them as well.

KDE's automounting is still linked against udisks, not udisks2 yet.
