"Error 2" message on boot-up of Linux O/S

Hi there,

When I power on my Acer Aspire One (runs the Linpus Lite operating system which I believe is based on Fedora 7) I receive the following error message:

"Error 2".

The boot-up process goes no further and the operating system never loads up.

Does anybody have any idea as to how this can be resolved without having to resort to using the recovery disk to wipe over the previous installation?

If this involves using boot-up recovery tools that run from a USB stick on system start-up, would somebody be able to let me know where they can be downloaded from?

If anybody can shed any light on the above, I'd be very grateful!

Hmmm not sure you'll get a lot of (linpus) specific help here but I can remember one of the girls in the office had a problem with her linpus linux netbook and it was a total pain to do anything, I couldn't even work out how to open a terminal, one of my colleagues took it home and used a live usb os to correct the problem (I can't even remember what it was) you could use any live os and maybe take a look at your grub.conf if there is such a thing in linpus.
Maybe it's just god's way of telling you to install a better more up to date os
If all else fails you could use the live system to copy your files (if they can still be found).
Sorry I can't be much more help

Error 2 sounds like a HD error. Heres a link to Grub Error Messages:

http://www.uruk.org/orig-grub/errors.html

Any live CD will help you test it out, I usually boot up my Partition Magic CD. Run a "fdisk -l" in the terminal and see if the HD is recognized.l
