F16 Filesystem Problem on Install

Hi All...

I spent the weekend trying, unsuccessfully, to install Fedora 16 on my PC. Installation goes normally until "Copying live image to hard drive." When the progress bar gets about 1/4 of the way across the screen, I get an Unrecoverable Error...

"ext4 filesystem check failure on /dev/mapper/VolGroup-lv_root"

I've tried with the live cd version and the DVD installer... same problem, same place. Tried with the drives formatted and and unformatted. Nada.

I've also tried Unbuntu 11.10 and get the same sort of error when copying files to the HD.
Both installers say the CD or DVD has no errors.

Tried installing on a 500GB drive (Where I really want Fedora to reside), on a 2TB data drive and on the free space on my 2TB system drive. Same errors, same places.

A friend loaned me her Red Hat 5.5 Server media and the installation went off without a hitch, but besides not being legal, I don't want a server setup!

My PC has an MSI 870A-G54 system board with an AMD Phenom x4 CPU, 8GB ram, and 3-Seagate hard drives. The OS is Win7 x64.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks...

Amanda

Re: F16 Filesystem Problem on Install

That's not the first time that's been reported, but as far as I know, no real solution was found. There are a couple of potential work-arounds mentioned: http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=274851, http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=274315 (i.e. install an older version and upgrade, or do a net install – neither ideal).

Re: F16 Filesystem Problem on Install

Thanks Gareth!

I located a copy of F15 and everything went off without a hitch. 15 will do for now, till I get around to upgrading. I'm still fairly new to Linux and have a lot more learning to do!
