associating .m files with matlab

good day all,

I am using fedora 16 with gnome. I use Matlab , however, when I try to open .m files(i.e. Matlab files), its only associated with Emacs , also,, when I try to change to other application , Matlab is not available on the list of program softwares to select from.

Any advice would be appreciated on how I can associate .m files with Matlab only.

Interesting question - you can select "show other applications" but that seems to only the things Gnome3 understands.
In Gnome2 you could select other apps from any executable.

Now the association is kept in ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list
but it requires some G3 compliant info ... so gedit becomes gedit.desktop and vim becomes fedora-gvim.desktop
