Canon camera not showing up now on F16

I have a Canon camera which, until very recently, showed up when connected and gave me several options as to what to do with it including starting DigiKam. Some recent update has changed this now and nothing shows up in the taskbar when it is connected but DigiKam finds it OK and downloads the photos OK.

I'd prefer it to work the way it used to and give me all the various options.

Anyone any ideas why this has happened please?

Please check your gnome system settings for "Removeable Media" and uncheck the box at the bottom which reads "Never prompt or start programs on media insertion".

is the tail output. I use KDE and not Gnome so dont have any Gnome settings AFAIK.

Yes the camera is recognized and always was, it's just now I dont see the option to open the various programs I have which can handle it. Other USB devices do show up like my USB HDD which gives me the 3 options.

I have done a bit more investigation on this. In System Settings - Device Actions camera is set for Gwenview, Digikam and File Manager. In System Settings - Camera the Canon SX10IS shows up when connected but all of the options are greyed out for this device so I cannot for example select Info to display settings. Also with the camera connected it does not show up in Dolphin in the LH panel. Digikam is the only application which auto-detects the camera and allows access to download the photos.

Something has definitely changed in a fairly recent update which has altered the way this works. I dont use the camera every day so it is not possible to work out when this stopped working. However I do wonder if this has been caused by the recent update in release of KDE?

Having discussed this on the KDE forum it has been concluded that the problem is in fact UDEV rules which have changed to make the camera non-removable and the default for the device notifier is to show only removable devices, changing the notifier to show all devices shows the camera.

So I need to know how to get udev to report the camera as removable which in my view should be the case.
