I see.
But the last updates about the problem date back to May, so I was wondering if anything new has happened since then.

Re: Testing request: owners of older GeForce cards (NV30 and NV40 families)

I haven't heard of anything new since then.

It appears that after the "threat" of having it as a blocker for the Fedora release was taken off, they stopped looking into the problem

Re: Testing request: owners of older GeForce cards (NV30 and NV40 families)

I made contact yesterday.

http://lists.freedesktop.org/archive...ly/010689.html

The latest code is better in that 745202 is no longer an issue.

Nice news.
And is that code being included into the official Fedora repositories soon?

It's in rawhide, but I don't expect it to become available for F17.

This isn't the result of fixes to the old code. It's new driver code and has new issues. At this point, it's "better" because 745202 is gone. There are, however, additional problems which need work.

I hope it will be someway possible to install it in Fedora 17... Gnome 3 without its Shell is kind of mutilated.

Question Re: Testing request: owners of older GeForce cards (NV30 and NV40 families)

Sorry for waking up this old thread...

Have there been any news about this bug in the last months?

Has it been solved in Fedora 18?
If not, does any workaround exist in order to make Gnome Shell work with a Nvidia NV3x video card?

Thank you.

Re: Testing request: owners of older GeForce cards (NV30 and NV40 families)

I was just looking at the bug report for this last night, and it appears to still be a bug in F18. Not certain how much it affects things, but the NV3x adapters are still blacklisted so they don't try to run Gnome shell.

They keep taking it off the blocker list, so no fires have been built under people to get things fixed.

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=745202

Edit:

The only workaround has been to try it out with your particular card by removing it from the blocked list, and see if it works for you. Other than that, no workaround that I know of.

I'll try this workaround. It would be a pity if the users of such widespread families of videocards were prevented from running Gnome Shell...
