Installation of F16 fails to boot

Hello all. I am hoping someone can answer my question. I have installed F16 and once completed, it fails to boot. I am old school Fedora but have been away for a while. The problem is that any custom partitioning scheme that I do will not boot. I've tried simple ones, and advanced ones and still no go. In fact, the only way it will boot is if I let it do the partitioning scheme. When doing a custom scheme, I've tried all of the options for installing the bootloader but no go. What I have now is a 2 drive system that I want to do a software raid. I hate LVM so have partitioned manually. on sda I created a 1 mb bios boot patition, a 500MB /boot partition, a 500GB software raid partition, and a 1gig swap partition. On sdb I created a 500MB software raid partition and created the raid device. Everything formats and installs correctly but my pc says no operating system installed when I try to boot. I have booted in rescue mode and verified that all of the grub stuff was there but when I tried to enter the grub shell it could not be found so I can't try to reinstall it (or am I going at it the wrong way?). Any help would be immensely appreciated. THanks!

Re: Installation of F16 fails to boot

One cause for the "no operating system" message is when no partitions are marked "active". You can make a partition active using parted and set the "boot" flag to "on" on one of the primary partitions.

Re: Installation of F16 fails to boot

Thanks for your reply. I did try marking it active but that did not help. It turns out that my system does not play well with GPT partition tables. I wiped the drives and started setup with the nogpt option and now have joy. Thanks again!
