unable to boot upgrade setup

Hi,
today I've tried to upgrade my f16 machine to f17 but without success. Booting the setup fails because dracut claims a missing or empty "root=" parameter followed by a kernel panic.

Re: unable to boot upgrade setup

Booting into a previous F16 kernel and updating to a newer F17 kernel would probably be the most painless way of fixing it. You could try enabling the updates repo if one isn't available yet.

Re: unable to boot upgrade setup

f16-i686 => f17-alpha

Code:
Preparing system to boot into installer
DEBUG /sbin/grubby --title="Upgrade to Fedora 17 (Beefy Miracle)" --remove-kernel="/boot/upgrade/vmlinuz" --add-kernel="/boot/upgrade/vmlinuz" --initrd="/boot/upgrade/initrd.img" --args="preupgrade repo=hd::/var/cache/yum/preupgrade  ks=hd:UUID=ee6f955d-b1bd-40dc-961d-1880758fc34b:/upgrade/ks.cfg stage2=hd:UUID=ee6f955d-b1bd-40dc-961d-1880758fc34b:/upgrade/squashfs.img"
sh: /sbin/grub: No such file or directory
/bin/echo: write error: Broken pipe
All finished. The upgrade will begin when you reboot.
#  which grub

Re: unable to boot upgrade setup

Looks suspiciously like a usrmove problem. The original poster doesn't say how he did the "upgrade" if he did a yum upgrade, or preupgrade.

No and no!

This is https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=785815 . And for the specific preupgrade instance of the bug, it's https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=800205 .

Re: unable to boot upgrade setup

Oops, I just saw "kernel" and "no root" and thought it was a common mkinitrd bug.

Lots of last minute changes for the release this time! At least there will be lots of new features.
