My brief introduction

Hello everyone,

I searched the forums for a spot for introcutions and well this seemed like the only logical place for them so I am posting here I guess (sorry in advance if this is wrong).

I have been in IT as a career for about 10 years now. I have a Bachelors of Science in Computer Information Systems and currently working on a Masters of Science in Information Technology focused in Information Security Assurance. Anyway I have experience in a number of programming languages (C#, Python, VB, Java, VBS, and Java script), and a number of web developement languages (HTML, Asp.NET, XHTML). Unfortunately for me this has all been done in a Windows environment.

After testing out some Linux distros on live cd environments I decided I wanted to go the full mile and pick a couple to install to a few machines around the house. I picked Fedora 15 and Ubuntu as my distros. I really like Fedora 15 a lot and the community seems good for Linux across all distros. So I am a bit of a fledgling to the Linux world. Anyway I will be around and it is good to be part of the community!

Re: My brief introduction

Welcome to FedoraForum.

The Linux community is indeed good and one of its strongest points, IMHO. Of course, the low price tag helps!

You'll find (if not already) that the "Linux way" is a bit different, but eventually much of your knowledge will be transferable to the Linux environment.

Good choice on picking Fedora.

Yeah very true. Most of my knowledge has come over with some minor difficulties, but not to bad. I am stil working on my chat issue but that seems to be the only thing.

I come from a Mac world (graphic design), and setting up and supporting SOHO's. And I would offer a friendly warning:

Some years back I started out by installing Yellow Dog Linux on a few spare machines too.
Now all my machines run GNU/Linux, with one lone legacy Mac used as a file server.

Welcome to GNU/Linux DarthPrime, and I believe you will find the Fedora Forum a valuable resource.

Re: My brief introduction

Welcome to the Fedora Forum I also tried out several Live cd's of Linux and to quote Forrest Gump "Life is like a box of chocolates you never know what your gonna get " I guess you could say the same about Linux, it can be fun, interesting, frustrating and a bit of a leap into the unknown, all at the same time !

Welcome !

It is a great community here - lots of good ppl and a few rotten eggs for flavor

My question to you - why F15 ? I see no advantages and some substantial bug-fix disadvantages compared to F16. The gnome3 is a lot better in F16 IMO. So I foresee a "preupgrade" in your future !

Cool Re: My brief introduction

Uhm ... Yeah. About that.

Let me go get my hat ...

<....>

Welcome aboard.

Now you've got about five minutes to PM me and prove you're not a spammer. Otherwise ...

"Cha-Chink!"

...

...

Aw, hell. Never mind. If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and has feathers on it's bum ...

BANG!

Tinkle, tinkle, tink!

It's a damn spam-duck!

Re: My brief introduction

Seems like it's blown out of the water, duck, spam feathers and all But I thought you might let one of the new Forum Admins have the pleasure, or do they not have "blow out of the water" authorisation yet
