No speaker sound on alienware m17 R3

Dear All,

I cannot hear the sound from the speaker. I can only hear the sound when I connect a headset to the audio jack.

I have tried to all the alsa utilities (pavucontrol) to see if anything is muted but I couldn't find anything.

I have also created a config file at /etc/modprobe.d/alsa.conf with the following commands:
options snd-hda-intel model=alienware
options snd slots=snd-hda-intel
# u1Nb.U1J92flYfgB:Intel Corporation
alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel

But still I can only hear sound from the audio jack and not the speakers of the laptop.

It does seem that other distributions the solved is solved only by the above commands.

Is there anything specific to fedora?
The output of lspci | grep -i audio:
Code:
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family High Definition Audio Controller (rev 05)

Re: No speaker sound on alienware m17 R3

Hi cbarmpar, I just got the sound working on my M17x R3 by adding everything as you stated but I had to change options snd-hda-intel model=alienware to options snd-hda-intel model=dell-eq and after that my speakers were working hope this helps!

Re: No speaker sound on alienware m17 R3

Hi,

Many thanks for your reply.

I have just solved the problem by updating to the 3.0 kernel which has a sound pach. Once you update either delete the alsa.conf file or put it equal to =auto.

With del-eq you probably dont have speaker and mic at the same time!

Thanks
