Not able to detect wifi connections

Hey guys,

I'm a complete newbie to linux, trying out Fedora 13 on my Samsung RV509.

I don't know much about linux, but I did a few google searches and I think these command outputs should probably help you figure out my problem.

Code:

I can't solve your problem, but I'm wondering why you are using Fedora 13 which reached end of life june last year and not the latest Fedora 16. A change might solve the problem.

Re: Not able to detect wifi connections

This is your wifi part ....
02:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4313 802.11b/g LP-PHY (rev 01)

Do
lspci -nnk
to see if there is a drive installed. (the 4-6 lines after the one above).

Right - you don't have a driver for that hardware.
14e4:4727 - -is the PCI ID

For example this line is he driver for the WIRED enet
Quote:
Kernel modules: r8169
Next question - is there a driver, is it in a later kernel.

Here is a proprietary driver for Linux, you can google up directions for building & installing
http://www.broadcom.com/support/802.11/linux_sta.php

However there IS a driver for the 4313 in recent Linux kernels.
brcmfmac.ko or maybe brcmutil.ko
but these didn't exist until very recent kernels.

If I were you I'd install f16 and then install a new kernel from koji. Trying to make new harware play under old software is a time-waster.

---------- Post added at 10:54 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:49 AM ----------

That driver was added to the kernel on October 11, 2011, and ARE in the F16 standard kernel (koji not required).

Install F16 ! Reboot.

Fedora 13 stopped getting updates and official support in June 2011. Is there a reason you are installing this now, instead of the current version? It's much easier for us, as a community, to support you if you are willing to have your code fixed (which fedora does with supported releases) as well as your usage (which is what a forum does.
