F16 and no wireless... "nl80211 not found" (help, thnx)
"Wireless Connection" is not a selection in the Network Settings. Tried:

Most likely your laptop needs wireless firmware or a third party driver. In order to solve this problem we need to know what wireless chipset is inside your laptop. Please post the output of the following commmands:
lspci
lsusb

The driver should be in kmod-staging install the rpmfusion software repositories first. Also see this thread, it has some recent issues near the end.

Ahhh thanks. Wireless has been installed now but it is not detecting networks at this point...

Did you read that thread I linked to? It says that the most recent kernel that worked was 3.2.2
