Acer Aspire 4530 Crystal Eye webcam detection

It would seem that the above mentioned webcam cannot be detected by any app that should be able to detect its presence. When I run dmesg, this is what I see:

Any suggestions as to how I can get the webcam detected in things like Cheese, Skype, Google+ Hangout, etc.?

Re: Acer Aspire 4530 Crystal Eye webcam detection

Make sure that you're a member of the video group. For example, if user name is john then

    usermod -G video -a john

Then log out, log back in. I used to use lucview to test that it was working properly. I have an old page on the 4720z at

    http://home.roadrunner.com/~computer...acer4720z.html

If you look through it for lucview, there's an outside chance that you could use that to at least see if it's working correctly.

Where am I doing the usermod thing?

Also, I couldn't see a video group here.
