Filemanager using gedit to open directory

When I plug in my external hard drive or a flash drive, I get a little window indicating that I just plugged in something and it give me some options about what to do. One is open drive with file manager. I would like to use this to access the device. However, if I click this one, gedit opens and tells me that what it is trying to open is a directory and it can't. I don't understand how gedit gets called at all. I have checked the settings under System settings - Hardware - Device Actions. There are 3 choices with "Open with File Manager" and the Open with File Manager invokes "kioclient exec". None of the options in Device actions mentions gedit.

Fedora Release 16
Kernel Linux 3.2.6-3.fc15.x86_64
KDE 4.7.4
GNOME 3.2.1

I am using the KDE gui.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Filemanager using gedit to open directory

I do not know how it would change, but did you check the file associations? These are listed at /usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache.

Re: Filemanager using gedit to open directory

There are 521 lines in that file. What would I look for?

Re: Filemanager using gedit to open directory

Try the following

Code:
vim /usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache
/gedit.desktop
On my computer, this is what I see when I search for gedit.desktop

Quote:
text/plain=fedora-nedit.desktop;emacs.desktop;kde4-kate.desktop;emacsclient.desktop;gedit.desktop;fed ora-gvim.desktop;
If I search for nautilus.desktop (under GNOME)
Quote:
x-content/blank-bd=brasero-nautilus.desktop;
x-content/blank-cd=brasero-nautilus.desktop;
x-content/blank-dvd=brasero-nautilus.desktop;
x-content/blank-hddvd=brasero-nautilus.desktop;
application/x-gnome-saved-search=nautilus.desktop;
inode/directory=nautilus.desktop;
See if this helps.

P.S.
There could be a easier way out of this. But, I have changed file type associations in the past this way (I like editing configuration files ... )

Re: Filemanager using gedit to open directory

My results are similar except for this one

inode/directory=kde4-dolphin.desktop;kde4-kfmclient_dir.desktop;kde4-filelight.desktop;kde4-gwenview.desktop;kde4-cervisia.desktop;kde4-k4dirstat.desktop;nautilus.desktop;

Being somewhat knowledgable about Linux, I am guessing that this refers to a directory and lists what could be used to process this file.

Based on this, I opened Dolphin, selected a directory, right clicked, scrolled to 'Open with', and gedit was on the top of the list. That led me to check settings-system settings-Common appearance and Behavior - File associations. I looked at inode-directory and gedit was on top. I removed it and tried a flash drive again. It opened in Dolphin like it should.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
