Making Money from Fedora (Ideas Please)
As a fan and user of Fedora, someone who's converted people to Fedora from Windows, and a Red Hat shareholder, I would like to see Red Hat make more money from Fedora somehow. If nothing else, the money could be used to pay for the further development of Linux. The default search engine in Fedora is Google and I suspect Red Hat makes some money from that. Can anyone find or think of any other ways that Red Hat could passively make money from Fedora?

Re: Making Money from Fedora (Ideas Please)
The Mozilla Foundation, a non-profit organization, gets 84% of its funding from Google,
partly due to their deal which makes Google the default search engine in Firefox.

I don't see how Red Hat or Fedora makes money by using Firefox. Would Red Hat
switch to Internet Explorer if Microsoft offered them money?
In addition to being one of the most widely-used Gnu/Linux distros, Fedora serves
as a valuable development and testing platform for Red Hat. Red Hat Linux is
better because of Fedora.
Developers paid by Red Hat make valuable contributions to open source software.
Imagine what Gnu/Linux would be without PulseAudio, systemd... oh never mind.

If RedHat wanted to make money from Fedora, they would have made it long time ago.

Red Hat invests in Fedora to encourage collaboration and incubate innovative new free software technologies.

Interesting concept. I will elaborate my thoughts in the following.

I do not know about that. I think no.

Probably by "saving" money as an indirect effect of "spending" money on Fedora. Spending resources for development of Fedora which allows for X numbers of users on Y numbers of different platforms to try out a variety of system functions which helps to provide a foundation and save funds by having these X users on Y systems conduct testing and providing feedback for further refinement and development.

Good numbers, I did not know that and I agree with you.

They do, via Red Hat Enterprise Linux, which is built on a stabilized Fedora.

Re: Making Money from Fedora (Ideas Please)
Uh, you mean exactly like RedHat does now? Fedora is a test bed, nothing more.
