    Re: F16 rc.local file missing

the /etc/rc.local file isn't there by default anymore. The switch to using systemd instead of svsvinit changed quite a lot of things.

However, if you create the rc.local file and set it to be executable, then systemd will pick it up and run it on boot.

    Code:
    su -
    (root password)

    touch /etc/rc.local

    chmod +x /etc/rc.local

(add whatever you want to your /etc/rc.local file)

    systemctl enable rc-local.service

    Re: F16 rc.local file missing

The rc.local file is a BASH script file. The first line in the file needs to be: #!/bin/bash
    Code:
    BASH:~/-> head -5 /media/Fedora-12-i686-L/etc/rc.d/rc.local
    #!/bin/sh
    #
    # This script will be executed *after* all the other init scripts.
    # You can put your own initialization stuff in here if you don't
    # want to do the full Sys V style init stuff.

    What do you get with:
    Code:
    systemctl status rc-local.service

    Re: F16 rc.local file missing

I don't know why the rc-local.service isn't starting, but maybe you're right about the rc.local file needing to be in /etc/rc.d/ directory. That is where I put my rc.local file (/etc/rc.d/rc.local), plus, I created a symlink to it in /etc/.

Try moving the file to /etc/rc.d/ and see what happens. Also, did you make the rc.local file a executable bash script by adding the "shbang" line at the head of the file as I suggested earlier, and make the file executable (chmod +x) as DBelton instructed?

    Re: F16 rc.local file missing

heres what iv'e found out so far. in F15 /etc rc.local was a sybolic shell script that pointed to /etc/rc.d/rc.local shell scipt. inside was #!/bin/sh
    #
    #
    #
touch /va/lock/subsys/local witch just had a plain text document
then i had my modprobe floppy below the touch statement.

anyway i fount an old bug report when F16 was in testing and someone decided that it needed to be removed.
    Bug # 734268
https://bugzilla.redhad.com/show_bug.cgi?id=734268 where it ws aked to be removed. funny i always thought that the advancement of an O.S. meant things got simpler not harder.. shoot we dont even have icons put on out desktop to mount & unmount stuff.
anyway, i don't understan the report so... maybe someone could read it... please

---------- Post added at 05:27 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:29 PM ----------

ok ok ok i got it !!!
    touch /etc/rrc.d/c.local
    first line #!/bin/sh
    droped a few lines down
then added modprobe floppy and saved it
    then chmod +x /etc/rc.d/rc.local

no need to try to enable it. if its an exacutable shell scipt systemd picks it up automatically on reboot.

    weeeeeee

    thanks fellas !!!!!
