Raid1 install failing..

Hey Gang- Fresh F16 install with "/boot", "swap" and "/" on an SSD and separately trying to install "/opt" on two 750GB HD in RAID1 for NFS, FTP, backup server. Set up the two HD as software RAID then attempt to build the RAID device and receive error "only raid0 arrays can contain growable members". Have tried using both 'maximize space on drive' and allocating specific fixed amounts. I don't want to use RAID0 and I don't have enough drives for RAID5 till I backup some other machines first with terabyte drives. TIA for any help.

V.
